Dodger Stadium

The address of the stadium is 1000 Elysian Park Ave, Los Angeles. It is accessible from the Stadium Way exit off of the 5 freeway and very easy to find. General parking costs $15 and preferred parking is $35. We got there early (maybe 20 min. before the game was to start) and found it easy to get in and find a space fairly close. Another great option is to take the bus. The Metro bus line stops right near the stadium entrance and you can use the number 2, 3 and 4 lines to get there. There is also a Dodgers Express bus that leaves from Union Station and it starts running 90 minutes before each game.

Once we parked and figured out where to enter (we were at the field level), we got in line to get through security. We had 2 aluminum water bottles and those were taken from us and we got a ticket to come back and pick them up when we were leaving. Also remember that glass bottles, cans and hard-sided coolers are not allowed. Plastic water bottles are OK as long as they are factory sealed and 1 liter or less and outside food is permitted provided that it is not in hard sided coolers. This is a terrific way to save money and you can just focus on maybe getting the kids ice cream or peanuts as a special treat!

Ticket pricing information is as follows: First, children ages 3 and under are admitted for free as long as they are seated on their parent’s lap. There are discount tickets available for children ages 3-12 and they vary in price and location from $5-10. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays in September you can get a Coke Value Pack which includes 4 Tickets, 4 Dodger Dogs, 4 Cokes and 4 Action Figures - all starting at just $17 per ticket.

Another ticket promotion is for AAA members. They can receive $5 savings on tickets for select home games. Also check out the Subway Sandwiches promotion: get a coupon at Subway to get one ticket free with one purchased at the Reserve level.

Once inside we passed by all of the food vendors as we looked for our seats. I think it was overwhelming at first for my children because of the sheer size of the stadium and amount of people milling about. Madison was disappointed that we weren’t higher up which was funny. Unfortunately we did not get there early enough to catch batting practice but fans are invited before every game to watch the team warm up.

The food concessions at the stadium include a  Cantor’s Deli Outlet, Camachos Mexican Food, a California Pizza Kitchen, Dippin Dots, Panda Express, Carl’s JR, soft serve ice cream, Wetzels Pretzels, frozen yogurt and of course the standard Dodger Dogs and fries. There are also kids meals which were $5 and included a small drink or juice box, hot dog or Uncrustable PB and J, carrots and ranch and apple slices. Logan wanted a hamburger but that was not part of the kids meal. I got a CPK pepperoni pizza and Jody got a burger from Carl’s Jr. If you are interested in a Hebrew National all-beef kosher dog, they are available  to the Canter’s Deli vendor for $6.75.

I  want to note here something that is relatively new to Dodger Stadium if you haven’t been in a while. There is an all-you can eat section! If you buy tickets in the Right Field Pavilion you can munch on hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, peanuts, soda and water to your heart’s content! Beer, candy and ice cream are also available for purchase. This might be a fun alternative and definitely delight your kids. Tickets are $30 Monday through Thursday, $32 Friday through Sunday. Tickets for groups of 20 or more are a little bit less.

So back to our game day adventure. We got our food and sat down to enjoy the game. There are cup holders and the leg room was pretty decent. The weather was a great temperature... probably about 82 and breezy. The food definitely kept them occupies and they really thought it tasted great. As for the game play, the kids liked watching the pitching, catching etc. but their favorite thing was the Kiss Cam. We were seated only a few rows from one couple that was featured and the guy proposed to his girlfriend.  They got to see the action both up close and on the large video monitor  which was super exciting for all of us.

OK, so what about the souvenirs? There are shirts and hats of course but there were even silly bandz, the rubber band bracelets, there for sale. I also recommend signing up for Jr. Dodgers which is a free club for kids. They offer exclusive promotions for members along with online photos and videos of the players.

One thing that all kids need is a restroom! The restrooms here were easy to find and clean. There are baby changing stations at restrooms on every level and you can check the dodgers website to find out the exact locations before you go.

With their short attention spans we didn’t stay to the end and unfortunately the Dodgers were losing the whole time but we all had a very fun memorable experience. This is a great experience for young kids to take part in a live sporting event and with all of the discounts and promotions available this activity won’t break your wallet if you plan ahead!
